To the Moon! Rocket Science Is for Everyone

Help me give my students a learning opportunity that they won't forget! Help us take our STEM learning opportunities to the next level. We don't have a fancy science classroom, but we do have space to launch rockets!

FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Johnson's classroom raised $686

My Project

We a rural, small school and I'm hoping to strengthen our STEM learning opportunities. I teach 6th through 8th grade science and we have about 60 students.

We don't have fancy science facilities with sinks and natural gas at every station.

We have a normal classroom with desks and one sink, which can make some hands-on learning opportunities a challenge.

However, we do have one thing other places might not, a huge space! Over the past few years we have created paper airplane launchers. The students have loved this unit and learning through trial and error. It is always a blast to see their creativity in action. As we explore aerodynamics, force, drag, trajectory, and physics in general, I thought it would be so much fun to take it to next level. Rockets.

This kit will allow us to build rockets in small groups and put on a show for the entire school. We will have contests with design/decoration along with safe aviation/landing of the the rockets. This dreamy kit includes two rocket types, so those future rocket scientists that have a successful launch and landing with the smaller rocket can do calculations to predict the flight of the the larger rocket. I really feel that this will be a learning experience that will get so many of our students excited about physics, and school in general. I imagine it will be a huge hit and, if funded, I will also be investing in other rocket types so students can make new predictions. Please help us take our learning deeper into the troposphere!
