As you know, education has been turned upside down over the last couple of years thanks to the Corona pandemic facing the world. Online school has been tough, but both teachers and students have learned to adapt as best we can. Some students learned to be self-reliant and self motivated, while other students struggled to manage their time and to motivate themselves to get their work done.
This year, my students are creative, thrive with hands-on learning, and enjoy researching how and why things are the way they are.
Most of them are deep thinkers and want to soak up as much knowledge as they can. I have been really impressed with the connections that they have made with what we are learning in the classroom to the outside world. My students have a growth mindset and know that they can do anything with extra effort and hard work.
My Project
I would love to offer a comfortable place where students can meet for small group activities such as reading groups, science and math centers, and reteaching.
The wobble stools that I currently have around my table for small group work are more of a distraction than a help.
Many are breaking due to heavy use. They make noises when students sit on them, which is a huge distraction. This year, I have already had to throw one away, and a couple more are not far from this gruesome fate.
Having new chairs will help students focus on learning rather than seeing how far they can wobble without falling over.
