My Project
As a Reading Interventionist, I spend a great deal of time analyzing student data. I have found that students strive much harder to reach their targets when they understand their data and expectations. This is why Data Chats are an integral part of our classroom experience. It is imperative that we have the necessary resources to make our data chats meaningful and enjoyable. The ink will be used to print data in color. When data is printed in color it is easier for students to understand, as references can be made to specific colors. All data is stored in student folders and students use highlighters to assist in data analysis. After analyzing data and setting goals, students receive explicit direct instruction. Research-based science of reading manipulatives, such as the plexiglass mirrors allows students to see the placement of their lips, teeth, and tongue when saying sounds. The Elkonin Sound Box dry erase boards allows students to practice the dictation of sounds and words.
The goal for this project is to ensure that all students have the necessary resources to assist them in becoming skillful, fluent readers.
The first step is helping them to understand their current performance level followed by providing them with the skills necessary to reach proficiency.
As a Reading Interventionist, I provide instruction to our most fragile scholars. These students are performing below grade level and need additional support in building foundational reading skills. These students are special simply because they try so hard to meet their goals. They work continuously to improve each day and they encourage each other along the way. My scholars understand that our classroom is a learning zone where mistakes are expected, respected, inspected, and corrected. We have created a family environment where no scholar is left behind.
