My students need games that teach friendship and social skills, like the Bullies, Victims & Bystanders Board Game, the Socially Speaking Board Game, and Social Skills Board Games.

My Students
While everyone wants to have some good friends, not all children know how to make and maintain positive friendships. The students I work with need the opportunity to practice friendship and social skills because, as we all know, to make a friend, you need to be a friend!
I am the school counselor at a suburban, public K-5 elementary school in Tennessee.
The children I work with have a variety of academic, personal, and social challenges. Many of those children have difficulty making and maintaining positive friendships, and in some cases, their behaviors actually push others away.
These are good kids with good hearts, they simply lack the necessary friendship and social skills that support positive interactions with others. Once those skills can be taught and practiced, the social experiences of these children--and those around them--are enhanced. And as school becomes a more pleasant place to be, academic achievement also increases.
My Project
I am asking for four games that teach a variety of friendship and social skills. Some of these skills include: manners, carrying on a conversation, managing emotions in appropriate ways, managing impulsive behaviors, and anti-bullying strategies.
I will use these games in small-group counseling sessions with at-risk students. These games teach social skills, and playing board games with others allows students a real-life, real-time friendship experience. In this way, the small-group experience becomes a friendship learning lab!
I am also asking for porcupine balls. Anyone who has attempted to teach kids how to play board games with one another knows they need something to occupy their hands while they are learning the patience to wait for their OWN turn (as opposed to rolling the dice or moving the marker of a fellow player)!!! I think these porcupine balls will assist in addressing this challenge!
The ability to get along with others is integrally tied to healthy family interactions, school achievement, success in the work place, and safe and peaceful communities.
This project will certainly impact the students with whom I work, but it will also impact those with whom they come in contact--now and in the future.
