To Infinity and Beyond: A Solar System Thematic Unit

Dear Donor,
I am a fourth grade teacher at Madison Primary Center in South Bend, Indiana. I would like to start teaching through thematic units. The problem is that it is quite expensive to acquire visual aids and hands-on materials for the students to use in class.
One of the units that I am working to develop is a solar system unit. I would like to have a variety of visual aids and hands-on activities to engage my students in discovering this immense universe we live in. A few items that would help me to accomplish developing this unit are a solar system model, a bulletin board set, a space science cluster of activities, and color transparencies.
This unit would last for approximately one month each year and the materials would be reusable. To have these material would mean the world to my students as it would allow us the opportunity to break away from the typical "boring" (as my students refer to it now) textbook information and bring the solar system to life.
Please help me to inspire my students to reach for the stars and take their space knowledge to the moon!
