Being in its third year, we are a fairly new school. Our opening funds only allowed us enough money to purchase a small number of books.
As our school has grown, we do not have enough books for each student to have his/her own copy, which makes it difficult for those in quarantine or home sick to complete their work.
Having these additional novels on hand will make it easier for students to read their assigned pages at home so that we can focus on working on skills and standards such as annotating, analyzing complex characters and the unreliable narrator, as well as identifying textual evidence to support theme during class time when I'm there to model and lead them.
Without enough books, we have to spend a lot more time reading during class, which makes it hard to find the time we need to really focus on the standards and skills.
Having enough copies for all of our juniors would be a blessing and would ease the pressure and hardship on parents to purchase a copy for their child to use in these hard economic times.
These books will be used for years to come and will benefit 200+ students each year.
