Help me give my students exposure to a a wide range of theatrical content including Shakespearean text and performance, stage combat techniques, and other theatrical theory and practices!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have an amazing group of theatre arts students who are dedicated to engaging in quality theatrical experiences both in the classroom and in extra curricular productions. They are thirsty for hands on collaborative theatrical creation as our theatre program took a hard hit from Covid. They are back on stage this year and thriving, creating theatre as an ensemble, and connecting as young humans.
They inspire me every day as they continually strive to challenge and develop their performance and technical skills in theatre arts.
They are dedicated risk takers willing to go outside their comfort zone to achieve magical moments on the stage. AND they are consistently prepared even when they are involved in many other academic and extra curricular activities.
Theatre requires them to be exposed to and embrace a diverse range of cultures and perspectives. My students are courageous and compassionate about using theatre as a way to promote social justice and equality. I am very proud of their strong moral compass and willingness to challenge unethical behavior.
My Project
Whenever possible students should engage with theatre professionals who are actively involved and working within the professional community. Joe Atack is the Educational Theatre Director for the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival as well as the Producing Artistic Director for Good Luck Macbeth.
Working with Joe, the students will be challenged to take on a variety of comedic & dramatic roles as well as learn how to interpret and engage with difficult text.
Joe runs the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival's Young Shakespeare program for for students in the summer and this is an excellent opportunity for students to possibly get involved in a theatrical program outside of school.
