Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are just turning five. Currently, we are distance learning. The children are looking forward to school resuming in the fall. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. Some of the students have special learning needs and many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their children's breakfast and lunch. We are a very diverse community, with over 20 languages spoken.
Our school is a high poverty, Title I school with high expectations for all.
Each day, we practice letters, phonics, and sight words. We study science and math. We incorporate technology through the use of iPad apps, and we learn beginning engineering concepts through the use of building blocks and other manipulatives. At the end of the school day, the children are so excited to see their parents and tell them all the things they did at school. The parents are very supportive and they enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories, and learning new things.
My Project
Help my students receive materials and remote learning lessons with the supplies requested in this project. With the ink cartridges, we will be able to provide printed copies of lessons and work pages for them to complete at home. With the Osmo technology, they will be able to view books and follow along with me as we complete work together.
These resources will benefit their learning and are of even greater value as the children are learning at home.
It is hard for my little ones to sit and look at the iPad for so many hours. Having papers to work on provides some practice time away from the screen. Also, the Osmo will give them a close up view of the illustrations in the stories improving their understanding and helping them to focus. Finally, I am requesting face masks and tissues to prevent the spread of germs once we return to in person learning.
Thank you for reading this project, and for your support during this new and difficult time!
