Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are just turning 5. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. Some of the students have special learning needs, and many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their children's breakfast and lunch.
Our school is a high poverty, Title I school, with high expectations for all.
Each day we practice letters, phonics and sight words. We study science and math. We incorporate technology through the use of iPad apps, and we learn beginning engineering concepts through the use of building blocks and other manipulatives. At the end of the school day, the children are so excited to see their parents and tell them all the things they did at school. The parents are very supportive, and they enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories and learning new things.
My Project
Please help me supply my students' classroom with replacement cases and cables for our classroom iPads, and a subscription to BrainPOP Jr.
BrainPOP JR is a wonderful digital resource.
It contains many videos and other digital items that teach science and social studies concepts in a way that young children can understand. Our current subscription to BrainPOP Jr. recently expired, and we would love to be able to renew it.
In addition to the digital subscription, we are requesting the iPad cases and cables because the current ones we have are old and fraying, and in the case of the cables, not safe to have around young children. These new ones should work well for us for the next few years.
