Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"It's already time to go home? Aw, man!" This young learner was thoroughly engaged in discovering the attributes of buttons. With a promise from me that tomorrow will provide another opportunity to explore the buttons, the students put them away.

My Transitional Kindergarten students reside and attend school in a high poverty area.

The vast majority of my students qualify for and receive free breakfast and lunch. They are imaginative, energetic and loquacious. They enthusiastically share their feelings about their likes and dislikes with peers and adults.

My Project

I want these natural and authentic conversations to occur when science is the topic. My students will work with a peer in our science center and communicate their growing understanding of magnets, their five senses, and why some objects sink while others float. I want my students to have hands-on science experience both at school and at home. Students will be permitted to borrow the Science File Folder Games and the Can Do! Science Discovery Kits to continue the learning at home.

Funding this project will give my students access to the hands-on science materials they need.

My Transitional Kindergarten students will develop the necessary vocabulary to engage in authentic science discussions.
