Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach elementary art on a cart in Jackson Heights, Queens—an incredibly diverse and creative neighborhood filled with students who bring their imagination and unique voices to each project.
My students love making art that they can wear, gift, or display, and this project gives them that opportunity in a fun and hands-on way.
With your help, I’ll bring Shrinky Dink kits, stencils, and high-quality drawing supplies to every classroom I visit. Shrinky Dinks allow students to design something personal, watch it transform, and take home a miniature piece of art they made themselves—whether it’s a keychain, charm, or keepsake.
The stencils—ranging from animals to vehicles to letters—will help all learners, especially younger students and English language learners, feel successful and supported as they design. The vibrant colored pencils, Mod Podge, and glue will allow us to turn drawings into durable, colorful finished products.
All of these materials are easy to carry, classroom-safe, and help me bring an elevated, joyful art experience to students—no matter where they are in the building. Art supports my students' social-emotional well-being by giving them a creative outlet to express their feelings, build confidence, and find calm during the school day.
