Tiny Tots Toot & Tap: Instruments for My Special Needs PreK
My students need musical instruments to experiment with rhythm and explore different sounds, such as bells, rainsticks, tambourines, shakers, cabasas, and drums.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Taylor's classroom raised $813

My Students
Wasn't music class one of the best things in school? We sang, explored new sounds and rhythms, and had lots of fun. I want to make sure my preschoolers with special needs have that same opportunity. Music is a universal language that even my non-verbal students can understand and enjoy.
My special needs preschool students have been identified as having developmental delays or autism.
They attend a public elementary school and range in age from 2-6 years old. My students are so eager to learn and are excited about coming to school. I want to continue building on their enthusiasm for learning!
Our Title One school is located in a high-poverty area, and 77.6% of our students are identified as economically disadvantaged. Our school is also designated as a math, science, and technology magnet within our city.
My Project
My students really come alive and animated when we borrow instruments from our music teacher. These rhythm instruments include colorfully painted "rainforest" drums in different sizes, wooden rainsticks, plastic see-through rainsticks containing colorful pellets (very visually appealing,) preschool-sized tambourines, egg shakers, wrist bells, and cabasas. There will certainly be something in this assortment that will be just perfect for each child in my class!
These simple rhythm instruments will be accessible in our classroom all the time and not just borrowed.
They will help stimulate and appeal to my student's senses. All of my students have cognitive delays and other disabilities; they will greatly benefit from having access to instruments to explore, enjoy, and expand their opportunities. Everyone will be able to dance to their own beat.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
