Interior design classes study design elements and principles and apply them to a tiny house project board. They work through the steps of the project including who the house is for, type of space, and how elements will be used. They draw a floor plan on graph paper and use donated materials and finishes from a local design center. They pick up color copies in the library that represent the furniture, lighting, rugs etc. they would like to use in the space.
We had a display case showcasing 16 projects, but we are now splitting the use of the case with another department.
I am figuring out an alternative way to display these boards by using unused lockers outside my classroom. I brought in a heavy duty OXO magnet with clip from my refrigerator at home. It supported the board well. I also do not have enough templates for every student and am running low on glue sticks. So I added them to the cart too.
I hope through this project that students learn that bigger isn't always better and tiny spaces can be special too.
