My Project
I am a Kindergarten teacher at a Title I school, wanting to help my students grow and learn socially and emotionally. I absolutely love how curious, imaginative, and full of wonder my kindergarten students are! Every day is a new adventure—whether they’re discovering how letters form words, counting with excitement, or proudly sharing their thoughts with the class.
Kindergarten is such a special and foundational year.
Not only are students learning their ABCs and 123s, but they’re also learning how to be part of a classroom community—how to share, take turns, express emotions, and build friendships.
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is just as important as academic learning in kindergarten. At this age, students are not only learning letters and numbers—they’re also learning how to manage their feelings, work with others, express themselves in healthy ways, and solve everyday problems. These skills lay the foundation for their success in school and beyond.
That’s why I’m seeking more social and emotional books for my classroom library. Picture books that focus on topics like kindness, empathy, managing big feelings, making friends, handling frustration, and building confidence help young children connect with important lessons in a way that’s relatable and developmentally appropriate.
