This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I love the cultural diversity and multiple intelligences that my students bring to our learning environment. Every student contributes their own personal experiences, interests, and talents that enliven our daily learning experiences.

This school year I will be working with a group of 35 students, ten are English Language Learners, and seven are diverse learners with individualized educational plans.

What makes them special is their resilience and perseverance to overcome challenges in their own learning experiences. My students thrive when they are given choice and encouraged to find the answers to their own lingering questions. The greatest satisfaction is guiding my students through their own inquiry and observing their elation when they have succeeded at a task.

My Project

I would love to create a MakerSpace in my classroom to inspire a love of STEM - science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The MakerSpace in my classroom will be set up as a station that students can choose to go to throughout the school day. I plan to provide various STEM challenges at the station that students can work on independently or within a small group. My goal is to have this space available as a place that students go to to get creative, to build, invent, explore, and discover using an array of materials. My plan is to load up the space with plenty of basic household materials, but I also want to add in items that will definitely motivate my students to visit the space. The materials that I am asking for, such as the Snap Circuits, will allow them to explore the basic engineering, electronics, and circuitry concepts. Additionally, the Cubelets will engage students in learning to build and program robots.

A MakerSpace will help spark student curiosity, provide the opportunity to learn through discovery, and promote independence in their own learning.

It will be a great alternative for students that finish assignments early, or for students that just want a break from what they are working on. I have heard from teachers in different schools about the benefits of a MakerSpace in their school. I would love to bring the same excitement and passion for science to my classroom.
