My students need stopwatches! As we are heading outdoors to prepare for the mile run, we need to learn how to pace our laps. We need more stop watches to do that.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have limited space inside, so as the weather is getting nicer, we need to head outside for PE! Our goal for the year is to move. We work on conditioning and preparing our students for the mile test. 2 - 3 days of the week are spent on cardiovascular endurance.
My students cover the whole range of the spectrum.
I have athletes and non-athletes. I have students who participate in extra-curricular activities and those who do nothing after school except go home and sit playing video games. We are trying to get our students to be more mindful of life-long activities. Our students do not have the means to belong to fitness centers. So just getting them to run outside is our goal.
My Project
We want our kids to not only just move, but be aware of how fast/ or slow that they are going. With stopwatches, we can help those students struggling to pace themselves. We can also encourage those who are struggling to finish to try to beat their personal record. Stop watches can help the students empower each other by holding each other accountable with their times. It will also help out the teachers from limiting them to the "finish line", and we can help encourage others to finish faster.
We struggle with getting our students to meet the standards for the Fitness Gram Fitness Test.
We struggle with the amount of walking our students do compared to jogging/running. With these stop watches, we can teach the students different pacing techniques and have a visual cue to how long they are walking. Our goal is to get the kids moving, and trying to meet the standard in the mile run test! These stop watches will help to do that!
