I teach 8th grade Earth Science to the advanced students and General Science to the remaining population in a suburban school.
For my Physics unit which has to deal with Newton's Laws of Motion, students perform many experiments that deal with time. Since there is not enough funding for science supplies, science classes in my school tend to have enough equipment for either 8 groups of students. In the past, we settled for cheaper stopwatches that would break time and time again in the middle of an experiment. When working in groups of 4 sharing materials, there is more likelihood that students will have less opportunity to be engaged on hands-on learning.
I would like to have as set of 18 stopwatches so that students can work as in pairs. This will allow for students to be more engaged in conducting the experiment, collecting data, and analyzing accurate results like real scientists do.
Not only will your generosity help my physics unit but all the activities that require timers in both my General science and Earth Science classes throughout the school year. Your help will allow all my students become active investigators of science.
