Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 11th-grade students are an amazing group of young people, hungry to learn, eager to challenge, and enthusiastic about their own success.

Success fuels success and confidence in your preparation will sustain your spirit and your choices about the path you will take and create in the world.

My students come from parts of our city where there are not as many opportunities to achieve an excellent education. Our school refuses to accept that status quo: our students can and will persist to and through college. Introduction to Rhetoric and Composition is one step that leads them towards college confidence and college credit.

We take great pride in preparing students for the very rigorous AP Test and have doubled our passing rates in the past few years, sending the most students in our system to college with AP credit. We strive to become a national model for 6-12 education by delivering rigorous and engaging instruction, arming students with the skills required to be independent and successful in college, and creating a staff culture where every team member is excited to work together to provide life-changing opportunities for our students and their families.

My Project

These 27 Echo dots will help my virtual learners wake up on-time for class, set alarms for their different classes, and organize their days. Schools have relied upon bells and announcements for years; now, students who are at home are struggling with being on-time, being awake, and organizing their days.

Some students must be self-reliant, waking themselves up, and preparing themselves for at-home virtual learning while parents and older siblings are often working.

Some students are caring for siblings as they learn at-home. These Echo dots will greatly reduce tardiness and students missing class. Besides its infinite capacity for setting alarms and reminders, the Echo dot can connect with phones and apps, playing audiobooks and podcasts, quick assistance with spelling and synonyms, and even play music while students work. This technology will be something that they can continue to incorporate and benefit from even after we all return in-person.
