My Students
We have been awarded a field trip grant to visit our City's Field Musuem to see an exhibit about the 1893 World Fair. While this field trip is going to be exciting to students, it would be so much more relevant if students could also read the book, "Devil in the White City."
24 amazing and intelligent students show up at 8am every morning for my AP Lanaguage class.
These students are so full of personality that I almost don't need my coffee to energize my day. I am so proud of the way that they have tackled the complex texts I have already put before them, from a variety of non-fiction articles to the play Macbeth.
My Project
Although students have been working hard since the beginning of the year learning the basis of rhetoric, they are fully ready to jump feet first into a project that is not only engaging and rigorous, but rounded out with a personal tie to the city we live in and a visit to a local musuem. With access to the text requested in this grant, students will recieve a complete picture of the 1893 World's Fair and their learning will trully come to life.
Please show my students that literature, both of the fiction and non-fiction variety, is important.
Help them understand that while we can learn through musuem exhibits and videos, the most vibrant stories are still the ones that we find in books.
