Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are great. They love learning, and they enjoy coming to school. My students are mostly immigrants or children of immigrants. Many are English language learners (ELLs). Nearly all students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch because their family household incomes are below the poverty line.
My school is a large, crowded school in a very large urban district.
This past year, we have had a lot of budget cuts. Several staff from our school were cut. Most of our budget has been used to keep the teachers and staff that we do have. Even though the school has limited resources, students have some of the highest test scores in the area.
My Project
The pandemic changed education overnight. The technology that once was used to enhance the lessons in my classroom became the only way I could communicate with students. Some of my students have been remote learning for more than a year. It has been very, very difficult to keep my students engaged over a screen for so many months.
I need training on how use technology effectively with younger students.
Although my students and I have learned a lot about technology over the past year of remote and hybrid learning, I still feel inadequate at creating the best lessons for remote instruction. This conference will give me the opportunity to connect with other educators and attend over 50 hours of professional learning sessions. This could be a game changer for the 2021 school year!
