Students sometimes need a little encouragement to be active participants in a math discussion. Small rewards go a long way to have more students volunteer to share their thinking and reasoning in math.
A salty or sweet treat for achieving a small feat - taking a risk to share in math!
That's what the rewards will be used for.
To further enhance student engagement, I plan to start a friendly competition where teams will work to earn points that will lead to a weekly reward. Being a Harry Potter fan, they will each be a member of a HP house and will be working to win the house cup.
