My kids come to school five days a week to learn and by loved. They want praise and recognition for all the good they do, and they, without a doubt, do plenty. They deserve the best I can give them. They are a very animated group of kids who are willing to try anything, and we are consistently changing our way of learning.
Third grade is a fast paced world and we are just trying to keep up with the times.
When we walk into OUR classroom, we know this is a family. We can count on each other and talk about almost anything. When referring to the class, I say "my kids" because that's who they are. I have 25 amazing kids. My kids feel safe and they always tell me this. They love the classroom, they love each other, and they love me.
My Project
Following some of the educational technology leaders and my own experience implementing, teaching, and presenting internet based curriculum for third grade, the most important aspect is to create a web 2.0 environment (sharing, sharing, sharing) where students will "own the learning".
Chromebooks are the way to go as the Google App ecosystem is baked directly into the devices so students are sharing documents and videos and simply working together.
Another great feature about Chromebooks, is that since everything is in the cloud, if a student loses or breaks a device, they can just boot up a new one without losing their document!
Chromebooks turning on instantly makes a huge difference in the classroom! The kids don't have to wait two or three minutes for them to start up.
The fact that Chromebooks turn on quickly, also means I will have no problems asking the kids to turn them off so I can have their full attention. And with an eight hour battery life I'll never have to worry about them dying in the middle of a lesson or anytime during school hours!
