This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom consists of amazing, energetic and hardworking students. I have a multicultural class with students whom English is a second language. Their home languages are Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Farsi, and Tagalog.
Their parents belong to a low-income class with limited English skills themselves but are very supportive of their children in hopes that they receive a better education than what they received.
Our school is a math, science and technology magnet. Our student population is made up of students from all over the city of Los Angeles which means we have a lot of students who take the bus to school. Parents and students want to attend our school because of the awesome school culture and community support.
My Project
Please help our class get a digital subscription to TIME for Kids. I have used this amazing resource in the past and its great! The stories are fun and engaging for all my third graders. This resource lets my students have choice to read what interests them. It's like having a choice of magazines at their fingertips.
It also includes some great lessons for direct instruction.
They also have digital graphic organizers to help my students plan their writing responses to lots of interesting texts. Overall, I think TIME for Kids is an awesome investment to improve student literacy.
