Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are imaginative and fun-loving kids ages 3-5 with autism and many with intellectual disabilities as well. We come from low-income households and have not had much experience with the world outside their small community.
Many of my students don't have the ability to learn online.
Many depend on hands on activities or toys and whatever books they have at home. Despite the hardships they are facing with school being closed, they are happy and still wanting to learn.
My Project
Even in the best circumstances teaching can be challenging! Now my families are taking on the added challenge of helping me teach their child at home with very limited resources and it makes finding fun, engaging activities nearly impossible. Having these materials will allow us to share a sweet bilingual story about popsicles which they in turn can share with their family over and over again. The book will help develop a love for reading, build language skills, and increase their attention span. The Alpha Pops will help them to learn upper and lower case letters of the alphabet and their corresponding sounds as well as working on their fine motor while putting them together. Lastly, the molds and the juice will provide children and families with another fun family activity that will provide a fun science project, encourage them to build on their language and motor skills, try new foods and make something that will result in a yummy cool treat!
Having these 'COOL' activities will help give these sweet kids a variety of activities that can be used over and over again!
The skills that they will learn while utilizing these supplies will address almost all areas of development and will add to helping them build a solid, well-rounded foundation!
