My students need 20 stopwatches and one Attention Getter.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Jones's classroom raised $168

Getting preteens to read independently is a real challenge. Each day, students "buddy-up" to read high interest selections within one minute timed read. This motivation also helps to expand comprehension.
Teaching fifth graders in an urban setting is a challenge, especially when many are new English learners. It can be a contest of wits: me against them! But, with a bag of tricks up my sleeve, I can get them learning...more!
Presently, my one and only timer is in the process of "biting" the dust. If each student had a stopwatch, attention could steer from a group competition to the individual reaching to achieve a goal. Having the "Attention Getter" timer would be an added bonus. Imagine hearing the Tarzan call that time's up!
Your generosity will make it possible for my students to become more responsible for their learning. Please consider supporting this project to encourage reading fluency. You would be our TARZAN!
