Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My kindergarten children are beginning their voyage into the world of literacy. For my kindergarten children to be able to read, Time magazines, rather than just stories everyday, would give motivation to read.

My students are a vibrant colorful class in a urban part of Texas.

My kids are in a Title One school which means 80% of our kids are on free or reduced price lunch. My kids love to play, they love learning, and they love their work stations! My children are embarking on a new journey of reading and I want to give them every opportunity to fall in love with reading.

My Project

These Time weekly readers will give my children something to look forward to. Giving them a magazine on their level will provide them with necessary decoding tools to read for enjoyment. To have a weekly magazine, they can pull out to read for enrichment and leisure will be great and exciting to them. I plan on distributing the magazines like normal mail by putting them in their mail boxes to receive. These magazines are going to be an educational treat for my children.

These magazines are important to me because most of my children have not been exposed to magazines other than to just cut out pictures.

With the Time Weekly Readers, my students will be exposed to more experiences and information that our books cannot provide. My children are in great need of incentives to reading and I believe these sorts of mediums of print can bring those incentives internally in our children.
