Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
They say that time is money, and money is time. If this is true, I have to start teaching these skills to my students! I teach first grade at a high-need elementary charter school that just opened it's doors to 150 Kindergarten and First grade students in New York! Our school will eventually grow to serve students in Kindergarten - Fifth grade. Our charter schools is on the progressive forefront of education in our district.
Some of the most difficult concepts for young students to grasp are the concepts of money and time. Both of these important concepts are often overlooked by early childhood teachers, but I believe it is never too early to teach these important mathematical skills! Through fun, hands on learning activities, learning money and time can be exciting and relatively pain free! However, I do not currently have the resources to provide my students with these important hands on learning experiences.
In order to make learning about time and money a fun and engaging experience, my students and I need the proper resources. Whole class resources like a large magnetic clock and large magnetic money will make my lessons on money and time easy to see and understand. Smaller resources like a class set of mini clocks and a cash register will provide hands on experiences that are invaluable to their understanding of these difficult concepts. Finally, flash cards and independent learning centers will extend their thinking on money and time.
Through your kind donation, my students will be receiving essential resources needed to enhance their understanding of time and money. You will be giving them a head start on skills that will be vital for the rest of their lives! These resources will not only help my current students, but also my students in the years to come.
