Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I will soon begin my 2nd year as a teacher. With just one year in, I have noticed how excited the students are to learn.

My students come from very low-income immigrant families.

They all have the ability to learn but start off their education with a lower vocabulary so they need to work harder to meet goals. From what I have noticed, they are very eager to learn and are very proud when they accomplish a task.

My school has the highest FARMS rate in our large county meaning we are the most financially affected school. The school works hard to provide our students with not only the education they are obliged to get but also the social and emotional part that is often missing. The students enjoy coming to school because they know it is a safe, caring environment where many of their needs can be met.

My Project

Technology is a big part of education. Students and teacher are using technology all throughout the day in lessons and during centers. Our students are also now using technology in state mandated assessments. Because of this, I am requesting 2 Chromebooks to be added to our classroom's technology center.

For many of our Kindergarten students, the first time they are using a Chromebook is during a state mandated test.

Our students do not have access to Chromebooks at home, and our school currently does not have the funds to provide our classrooms with Chromebooks for consistent student use.

Having Chromebooks available in the classroom would provide students with the opportunity to become familiar with how to navigate them, before taking a state-mandated test. They will feel less frustration when it comes to using the Chromebook and be able to better focus on the test.

The Chromebooks would be added to our technology center, so that students will not only be able to learn how navigate a Chromebook, but also build on their literacy and math skills.
