Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a high-needs public school where 90% of students come from low-income families and 50% are English learners. The families in our school community face many challenges in their lives. This year is especially challenging because my students did not experience in-person school last year and need a lot of academic support.
Despite the challenges, my students are happy to be back in school and are ready to learn!
I will work with 1st and 2nd-grade students that need extra support to develop and strengthen their literacy skills.
My Project
My students are learning to read simple words and simple decodable texts. But that is not all reading is about. An important part of learning to read is listening to engaging stories. I have some stories on CDs, but no working listening center!
My students will be thrilled to sit at a listening center and hear a fun read-aloud.
After a lesson in reading words and practicing a simple decodable text, my students can have the opportunity to hear a story on CD while following along in the colorful book.
