it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a class of 24 kind and inquisitive first grade students in a dual language classroom where they love to learn English and Spanish all day long! Our school is a public Title 1 K through 8th grade school located in a highly transient, low-socioeconomic community. There are no bookstores, museums, or other educational organizations nearby where students can get enrichment outside the school and there is a limited opportunity for youth recreational sports or classes.
My first grade dual language students are enthusiastic, intelligent boys and girls who are eager to learn to read.
Due to the pandemic, they have fallen behind academically. I want to provide them with timers to help them improve their literacy skills. They are not getting the reading practice that every first grader needs. Please help me give my students access to reading. I seek opportunities for the students to become active members of their community, solving real-world problems. My goal is for all my students to be well-rounded, have a strong character, and be life-long learners and readers!
My Project
Help me provide my first grade dual language students with individual timers to help them build up their reading fluency in English and Spanish. My students need this tool to motivate them to practice reading every day. I would also like to have a large timer to use in the classroom to keep track of time as we complete our classroom tasks. The book Hector the Collector will help me integrate math into our reading time. Studies have shown that it is essential for students to learn how to read well by age of 9.
