My students need engaging books to motivate them to practice their sight words -listening to themselves with a sound phone and tracking their time with timers adds to the fun!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help our littlest readers build confidence and their reading at the same time!
The students I teach are the most struggling kindergarten "readers".
They entered kindergarten not knowing their letters or how to write their names. They have been slowly but surely learning these this year along with sight words. Now that they are more successful at identifying the letters/sounds of the alphabet, they are ready to go to the next level - sight word books!
My Project
The students are currently "reading" simple books that are copied on paper and stapled together. Having books in color that are bound they will motivate them to practice over and over again! In addition, the "I can read" phones will allow the kids to hear themselves clearly and encourage further practice. Finally, the timers will help students to time themselves to read longer and more each day!
Having these beginning reading materials will truly make a difference to my kindergarten students and help to lay an early foundation of success as they continue on their reading journey.
