My students need 23 subscriptions to TIME For Kids magazine to have relevant, nonfiction text to read on their level. Materials that they can take home to reread, discuss and share is a huge bonus!
Kids can get excited about the world around them and increase their comprehension skills as they share their discoveries about current events after reading magazines designed for their reading and interest levels.
Our classroom is extremely diverse!
We come from all varieties of social, economic, religious, and racial backgrounds, as well as different academic ability levels. We work together well by using all of our unique talents to support all of our varying needs. Teamwork makes the dream work!
My Project
I am requesting 23 subscriptions to TIME For Kids magazine to have relevant, nonfiction text to read on their level. With the addition of the Time Magazines, each student will have a new copy of relevant, nonfiction text to read in class each month. Not only will the material be used during whole and small group reading instruction to improve comprehension, it will be able to supplement our science and social studies units, giving students more practice with the vocabulary and concepts.
Practice makes perfect and reading nonfiction is a skill some students do not get to do often enough.
That is sometimes due to interest, but often due to lack of access to high-interest, quality materials. I think that these magazines can meet my students' needs by providing more engaging practice to help them perfect their reading skills.
