Time for MY Kids

My students need 31 TIME For Kids magazines to supplement our social studies curriculum. We do not have up to date text books and they need more real life non-fiction materials.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

By the end of the year I want my students to be able to understand history and geography, plus identify the differences in cultures throughout the world. As far as science I want my students to be able to apply science principles and standards to everyday life.

I have a mixture of students.

I teach both students with disabilities and general education students in an inclusive classroom. Our school is in a low income district and most of my students receive breakfast and lunch free in school. There is a very large learning gap and performance gap with my students. Many of them can compute math but have severe difficulty reading and comprehending, especially non-fiction material. My students come from a low socio-economic community, and most of their exposure to background knowledge is what we present to them in school. My school is not in the greatest standards according to the state and we have been audited several times. There are currently not enough social studies books for all of the third grade so we have to share amongst the classes.

My Project

We will use the TIME for Kids magazines to cover the topics of the common core and introduce the curriculum to the students. They will be able to read and learn real life non fiction and also keep up with current events. The students will be able to take the magazines home and hopefully open discussions at home about what they are learning. The magazines will help the students with research, graphing, and curriculum.

My students having Time for Kids will bring them closer to the world of technology and real life learning.

These magazines will start the process of closing the digital gap for my students. The magazines will provide the background knowledge and experiences they need to be successful lifetime learners.
