My Students
Eight year olds are curious sponges of knowledge. They want to know more about the world around them but have little access to age appropriate news in the media. Time For Kids is published by Time. It has fabulous photographs, articles, graphs, etc.
My students this year are a high achieving, highly motivated group of creative third graders.
Like so many schools across the country, their school has been struck hard by budget cuts. Luxuries like subscriptions to Time For Kids have been deleted from the budget.
My Project
Time For Kids inspires children to look up more information about interesting topics. They are not preprinted for a year so when new topics arise in the media, a new edition of the magazine is in circulation in child friendly language. These colorful subscriptions cause children to cheer when they enter the room and see it on their desks.
Newspapers and the news is filled with negative images and stories.
My students have access to enough of those stories in their own lives. Time For Kids gives meaning to reading. It inspires children to learn more. Isn't that what we all want?
