My school is a Title I school with 65% of the students qualifying for Free and Reduced-Priced lunch. The students are hard working and range in ability levels from Special Education to Gifted and Talented with all grade levels and classrooms.
I teach all 43 fifth graders math as well as teaching my homeroom students science and social studies.
They are a diverse group of learners from all backgrounds. Students come into the classroom willing to try new concepts when you make it fun and engaging!
My Project
Students in the 5th grade need the opportunity to read non-fiction materials. TIME gives students access to both print and digital copies for students to become more proficient readers.
Current events keep students engaged in their world.
This creates an understanding of what is going on around them, the opportunity to be creative in problem solving, and developing empathy. TIME for Kids allows students to get involved in the global world.
Non-fiction reading is skill students need in order to become successful later in life. My students will use the skills they learn now in each classroom they enter in their future and some will continue to read non-fiction into adulthood.
