Time for Kids to Learn About Their World

My Students

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." -Dr. Seuss. In order to help my students succeed in reading, they need access to interesting, high quality reading materials.

My class is made up of very excited 5 year olds who love to come to school and learn new things.

They come from a low-income, rural area of South Carolina, but are very eager to learn about and try new things. They attend a large elementary school which houses pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.

My Project

I am requesting subscriptions to Time for Kids and Weekly Reader magazines. I want to give my kindergarten students the time to find out about the world while encouraging them to read. Many of my kindergarten students are not exposed to the world around them and how things work. Many do not have books, magazines or newspapers at home and they are just learning the joy of reading.

"Time for Kids" and "Weekly Reader" magazines will give my students the opportunity to learn about their world.

These magazines will expose them to information about how others live, animals, science topics and places around the USA and the world. The magazines will expose them to age-appropriate reading materials and encourage them to read interesting current literature. I will be able to incorporate these materials in my Science, Social Studies and Language Arts curriculum.
