Time for Kids bring the world into the classroom. Students learn so much about real world topics and themes that will keep them reading.
My Title I, public school is in a resort/fishing town with lots of migration in the off tourist season.
Our K-5 school is small, with only 3 teachers per grade level. Our community is close and most everyone works in some type of trade to benefit the resort areas. My diverse kindergarten class has ELL (English Language Learners) and children that have always lived in and around this community. I want my students to learn more about the world around them.
My Project
Time for Kids are amazing reading materials for young children. The magazine exposes children to current events in a way that is age appropriate for Kindergarten students to understand and comprehend. The magazine is beautifully illustrated and keeps student's attention. My students have a thirst for knowledge and TFK is the perfect way to expose them (and their parents) to different topics that are timely and will spark their interest in learning more!
We will use these magazines as whole group learning. The magazines are also digital so each student will read their magazine along with the projected digital magazine. We will answer questions and comment about the articles as a class. Some students will be able to read during our Independent Reading time. All students can look at the pictures and recall what was read aloud to them from the projected digital whole group sessions. These magazines are so helpful for students to take home and read with their parents.
I would absolutely love to have a subscription to Time for Kids for my students.
