Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a unique neighborhood where San Diego locals and refugees from Iraq, Kenya, Burma, and other parts of the world settle for the first. My students and their families are given 3 months of aid and a crash course lesson on how to get a license, job, home, medical care, and education. Then, the rest is up the teachers and support staff at my elementary school.
Although the students at my school speak over 13 languages, we have become a central hub for families to acclimate and feel welcomed.
On Thursdays, a nonprofit organization called Feeding America provides our families fresh produce from locally grown farms. We also provide clothing and English classes.
My first grade students love coming to school not just to learn, but to work in a clean, safe place they can call a home away from home. It is truly a pleasure to nurture their minds and lay the early foundation to build their learning. In order to achieve this I am in need of a few generous donations to help fuel their dreams.
My Project
My students will wear the name tag lanyards on field trips. They are easily reusable throughout the school year. Name tags make trips safer and have my phone number on the back in case of emergency.
Beginning of the year school supplies like whiteboards, folders, and whiteboard markers are used multiple times throughout the day.
The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. Students solve math problems, edit sentences, and spell words during word study. Folders are for homework and writer's workshop papers.
Students use gallon sized bags to take home books, keep books at school, and store head phones. Pens and correction tape are used to grade papers. Velcro strips keep desk name tags in place.
