Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are very intelligent and competent learners. They are a mix of multiple cultures. Our top priority is to increase our reading levels and increase our vocabulary this year! We want to make big strides and close the achievement gap.
Our students are in a low-income area, and many do not have books to read at home.
My students are very focused on doing their best and giving their all. They have all been together since preschool and they adore each other! They like to encourage each other and do their best.
My Project
Every day in reading, our students are working in small groups.
They are required to work independently in groups with a facilitator and a timekeeper.
Watching the clock is cumbersome, so having timers would be more efficient. Timers will enable students to focus better with a timepiece at their desks instead of watching a clock on the wall.
In addition to needing timers for reading, our scholars need instruments such as scales and jars to measure in the metric system. Students need actual tools to understand the metric system, instead of using only pictures, pencils and paper. Having actual bottles to represent liters and objects to represent grams is more effective for learning measurement.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
