This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Where can a second grade student read about relevant current events like the most recent fossil discovery or natural disasters around the world? I have found Time for Kids to be an excellent, engaging, and weekly resource.
My students are at an age where they are just beginning to gain an awareness about the world beyond their immediate surroundings.
A real-world way to stay informed and pull out at a map to find a new city or country is through the ever changing subscriptions that Time for Kids supplies.
My Project
Last year was the first time I ever had these articles available. Students would cheer at their arrival and would not need immediate instruction. The request is an individual subscription for each student because when given out all issues would be opened, read, and discussed at tables. I could springboard off of concepts, vocabulary, and illustrations, but the students would easily ask inquisitive questions and we would inevitably make connections across content areas. Of course students would take them home and continue that conversation there.
I can't say enough about how valuable of a resource this subscription is.
I am an educator committed to seeking out the best resources and providing them for my students. The access would be unavailable without your support, so it is Time Again to bring these into my classroom for the upcoming school year.
