This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are in a dual language program, focusing on English and Spanish. However, our classroom does not have many Spanish books. My goal for this project is to be able to bring into the classroom a variety of different books that students can access. Students will be able to read independently when they are done with their work or when we are working on centers. I also plan on having students check out books and take them home so that they are able to complete daily reading at home as part of their homework.
Reading plays a fundamental part in students' development and academic achievement.
In order for students to be able to develop foundational skills in Spanish, they need to have access to books that they can read. Students will be able to increase their Spanish language development and be able to improve on their reading skills. Some of these books will also allow students to make connections between home and the stories that they are reading.
