This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Miss, why do we need to learn this? A question I used to hear all the time. But not recently. Ever since I began incorporating art projects related to my chemistry content students are engaged, excited, and learning!

I teach in a Humanitas academy in a large urban public high school in CA.

Most of my students will be the first in their families to graduate from high school. I'm pushing them to graduate from college and find a career they love. In my class, I'm focusing on how to relate the content we are studying to the real world.

My Project

In the Humanitas Academy, we find that integrating art into our subject areas is interesting and relevant for our students. If they can relate to what they are learning, they have an easier time understanding it. For my upcoming unit on solutions, I would love to be able to incorporate an art project on creating tie dye. Tie dye kits and supplies would not only help to explain the concept of solutions, but would integrate into other topics as well (chromatography, reducing agents, etc).

I can just imagine the buzz of excitement that will come from my classroom as students learn how to tie dye shirts and other items they bring in.

This will make the concepts of solutions so much more interesting. Thank you for considering my project.
