This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our 5th graders are wonderful students who will be transitioning to middle school next year - many, before they are developmentally ready to do so. The goal of this project is to provide a special, artistic tie-dye celebration to encourage our 5th grade students and support them in developing and strengthening the much-needed skills for their journey ahead, while celebrating how far they have already come.
The soda ash and tie-dye kits will be used for a great art activity for our 5th graders to participate in.
Many of our students are low SES and do not have access to artistic activities outside of school where they can creatively express themselves.
Research has shown that participating in art has a positive impact on academics and can lend to the development of creative problem-solving skills, social skills, motor-skills, and can also boost academic skills by fostering a creative and imaginative environment for students.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
