Students will apply mathematical and mechanical skills to the sewing machine techniques.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I plan to use the embroidery and sewing machine to teach students the life skill of sewing to create projects and mend items during an enrichment time activity in the Library.
Our middle school students will benefit from the concentration, patience, and self-control that is needed to make meaningful textile art and repair items by learning to use a sewing machine.
Sewing will help our students boost mood and self-confidence. Sewing ignites the mind to be active and constantly learning while creating a new project. Students will learn to use their free time in a productive and creative way.
Sewing also enriches our lives because of the social aspect needed to learn new projects either through a sewing, quilting or embroidery class or community events or through educational how-to-do on-line videos.
Community sewing organizations have catchy names such as Community Threads, Keep Calm and Sew-on or Sew-cial clubs. There are many organizations that contribute sewing gifts to local people in need or in hospitals. These items have significant meaning to help people get through difficult times in their lives and feel somebody cares.
Sewing can make the most of existing items that need minor repair for a longer life span. Sewing has a budget friendly impact on the environment so items that can be repaired do not go into landfills.
