My Students

My students coming from a variety of backgrounds. Some students don't know where their next meal will come from, let alone where they are going to access the internet to research for a project. My students deserve to have opportunities that are equal to students with much more than they do. My students deserve the world, I do my best to give them the tools to overcome their hardships and have a successful future.

Despite the hardships, my students always come to school with a smile and their faces and questions to ask.

They are eager to be part of the learning. They are constantly asking questions, promoting much deeper thinking. School is often the only the safe and fun place for my students to be. When my students are here I know they are in a safe positive environment, where they will get at least two meals a day.

My Project

My students come in at all different reading levels, but educational rigor still must be provided! When students can use AVID strategies, like reciprocal teaching, they work in groups to all access the same text, despite their reading level.

Time for Kids and The City of Embers will provide my students with opportunities to engage in grade-level reading materials, both fiction and non-fiction, together.

This will keep the interest of all students.

When students are interested, they are much more likely to be engaged in the reading. This project will do just that, provide grade-level materials for all students to engage with.
