Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a low-income/high-poverty urban school district. Their experiences are limited. They are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom, with challenges including emotional trauma, a high mobility rate, and many other special needs.
Many of them are being raised in single-parent households, and 99% receive free lunch and breakfast.
My students are 70% Hispanic and 30% African-American. I have several ELL students in my class as well as special needs students. The majority of my students are far below the national and state standards in reading and math.
My Project
I need classroom set up supplies to start off my year successfully. I will use these supplies to set up the different learning areas in my room.
The students will be working in groups with the chart paper and markers to brainstorm inquiry questions.
The scented markers will be a great motivator for my students. The spots on the floor will mark the spots for my primary students while they are doing yoga or watching content videos. The anti-bullying book and motivational posters will support my initial lessons on growth mindset and classroom expectations. The laminating sheets will help me make more posters and charts for my learning centers.
