Teacher Professional Development: I would benefit attending this National Conference to improve my strategies for working with students experiencing a wide array of diagnostic conditions. <profdevpilot>
Students learn better when all their needs are met. Within the last five years of my career, I've noticed a change in my classroom culture. I have met students with challenging behaviors that require different approaches to meet his/her unique needs preparing them for learning.
I have 18 years experience as an Early Childhood Educator.
I have earned my Bachelors and Masters in ECE from Coppin State College and Slippery Rock University. I have held leadership and mentor positions for 15 years. I have taught first, second and third graders.
This upcoming Spring will have earned my Masters in STEM from Notre Dame of Maryland through a cohort with Baltimore City Public Schools.
My Project
By attending the Students Who Are Wired Differently National Conference I will be able to learn tools, strategies and recommendations that I can use when working individually, in small groups. I will learn more about emotional and behavioral disorders and how they affect learning. In addition, I will use this knowledge to support not only our students; helping them accept and embrace their exceptionality while teaching them how manage their emotions and behaviors so that school can continue to be a place to grow, learn, and play, but their parents and our school community.
These interactive resources I'm requesting, Self-Regulation Training Board and the Challenge Software, will allow me to demonstrate and share, with colleagues, parents and most importantly students, how these resources can support our students inside and outside of the classroom.
This conference will arm me with tools and strategies to help me help my students.
I will have a better understanding of their behavioral and emotional needs and will know how to better serve them, so that our classroom culture is balanced and harmonious. It will give me an opportunity to build a collective and diverse network of teachers who can also provide support, strategies and recommendations throughout the year. Finally, as a mentor, I can bring so much more to our teaching staff.
