This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are exciting, spunky, little 4 year olds in a Dual Language Pre-K classroom ready to tackle new experiences into their world of learning. They are challenged little individuals that already come with lots of baggage from home. Most of these Pre-K little ones come from a variety of backgrounds that consists of low economically disadvantaged homes, socially and emotionally challenged, with special needs, homeless, and limited to access of resources outside the classroom. Over 75% of my students are currently English Language Learners and ready to explore and encounter new experiences through play into a world of knowledge, language, communication, socializing, literacy and art.

My Project

Our classroom is in need of a circle time carpet that will make a difference in my students' learning.

A new carpet that allows children their own space, a comfortable place to sit, and be actively engaged to learn would be desired.

Our circle time carpet is quite old and no longer functional. It needs to be folded to decrease its size. The creases made by the folds on the carpet make it uncomfortable to sit on as well. It also has letters and numbers marked too small and no longer completely visible for children to select their own space on the carpet.

Our carpet serves many purposes. This is an important and vital place to meet for my Pre-K students during Circle Time activities on a daily basis. My students take part in learning to share, ask questions, explore materials, develop language, listen to stories, sing, establish their social and emotional development, and so much more. Our carpet is an interactive area where children learn together as a part of a community.

By funding this project, the children would have a carpet that will support their learning in all areas and a special place to sit at that is comfortable.
