My Project
I teach in an Equity Focused Urban Setting where I serve minority students who qualify for free lunch program. My students range from PK through 8th grade. Every student in the school has at least one, 50 minute music class per week. I strive to create a learning environment where students receive the same educational opportunities as suburban students so that they are prepared for high school and beyond when they leave 8th grade.
Currently, the chairs in my classroom do not accommodate my various sized students or the activities which they engage in during class.
The flexible seating stools that I am requesting will accommodate elementary students through adults. The height will allow my youngest students’ feet to touch the floor which will support proper posture and breathing when singing. The stools are also stackable and can be moved to out of the way to accommodate movement and dance activities. In addition, The stools are the perfect height for drumming with my older students. The stools will be beneficial for essentially every child in the school.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
