My Students

These are the words that I heard the first time I borrowed a laptop from another classroom. My students do not have access to technology at home, and our classroom laptops are from the 90's and cannot connect to the Internet.

My class is a first grade special education class in NYC.

All of my 12 students are English language learners that speak another language at home. They attend a public school in New York City, and all of them receive free breakfast and lunch. My class is an enthusiastic group of children who love to come to school and learn! When I am able to borrow a working computer they tell me things like , "This is the best day ever" or " You're the best teacher" or "Thank you Ms. S., we love you!". They are the best group of children!

My Project

With a new laptop, the children will have exposure to technology that they so desperately need! I would love to use the laptop throughout the school day. I have great math games, reading, writing, and phonics programs that my students will use. Since all of my students are ESL students, I would love to be able to show them images and video clips to help them understand new vocabulary words (I currently have to draw a picture of a new vocabulary word, and I am not a very good artist!). If I do receive this new laptop, I will have the children rotate on the computer throughout the day so that they all have access to the laptop.

This new computer will provide my students with the chance to use technology that they do not have access to at home.

It will allow me to provide them with lessons that meet each of their individual needs. This laptop would enhance the learning in our classroom because computers are so engaging to young children!
